My print sale is set for the Saturday Dec the 13th between 10am and 3pm.My studio is at 17th Ave Studios near Brommer St. Call me for further directions at (831) 431-7122. It occurs to me that some pieces from my latest series recall a theme I would draw repeatedly as a girl: it was a Japanese woodblock print inspired night scene of wheat against a harvest moon sky. To see a hauntingly familiar composition surface again after many years is strange, marvelous. Inspiration can be the quick silver wonder of pieces laid out, complete, in my head or a burdgening fountain of "place this here, layer that there...take this shot, crop it and arrange it across there...this process is mindless, blissful, meditative. I go on what I call "photo safari" for all my photographs; this image gathering nearly always precedes my work- odd, delightful visual details abound on urban walkways while dusty trails or stretches of beach sand offer up nature's imagery. My focus in merging realms, specifically hard edged, man-made beauty such as glass, wrought iron, artfully cracked cement- and nature's expression of lake currents, tree canopies and burnished tree roots is revealed through my current work. These series relate how the paved, "civilized" world and last remaining stands of nature have nearly, tragically, merged. The prints have a presence and force that the small computerized representations can not provide: fine giclee printing reveals itself in crisp delineation, lush imagery and startling light refraction through the photographic montages multiple layers. It is heady and singularly challenging to be an artist- I'm profoundly grateful for my calling. My childhood fostered imagination, whimsy and endless exploration into all things creative. As a teenager in art school and for years after I lived a bohemian painter's life in San Francisco. In love with golden light before dusk, the lush, invitational expanses of Golden Gate Park's landscapes, the very veins on leaves I was avid to capture all that on paper and canvas... Now, my motivation is more internal than external: creating is an end in itself; "a body in motion..." Viewers exclamations of delight are lovely return.
